" />A successful geomembrane installation needs more than rolls of liner. The complete material list for a professional geomembrane construction project includes the membrane itself, the welding consumables, the protective geotextile, and a set of accessories that are easy to forget. This overview lists every material you should order and check before the crew starts work.
1. The Liner: HDPE Geomembrane
The core material is the HDPE geomembrane itself, selected by thickness and surface. For ponds and canals 0.5–1.0 mm is common; for landfills and mining 1.0–2.0 mm. Smooth liners are standard; textured liners give extra friction on slopes. Order area plus a 5–10% allowance for overlaps, repairs and anchoring. Rolls arrive in widths from about 2 m to 7 m — wider rolls mean fewer seams.
2. Welding Consumables
The HDPE welding rod is the main consumable for extrusion welding and repairs. Order 3.5 mm or 4.0 mm rods in 5 kg coils, matched to the liner resin. For large projects you will also need spare heating elements and a welding machine with an air pump if you plan to air-pressure test the seams. Keep the rods dry and clean until use.
3. Protective Geotextile Cushion
On rocky or sandy subgrades, lay a non-woven geotextile (150–400 g/m²) under the liner. The geotextile cushions the membrane against stones and roots and greatly reduces puncture risk. 4. Anchoring and Accessories
Anchor trenches around the pond or landfill edge hold the liner in place. The material list includes anchor pins, sandbags for temporary ballast, edge clamping strips and anchor trench fill. For pipe penetrations you need boots, flanges, gaskets and stainless steel clamps. Sealing tape and a repair kit (liner offcuts, rod, heat gun) should be on site from day one.
5. Testing and Safety Equipment
Plan for testing before you start: a pressure gauge set for the air pressure test, a vacuum box and soap solution, and a field tensometer for destructive tests.
