Geogrids are used to reinforce soil in roads, embankments and retaining walls. The quality of the steel-plastic geogrid or plastic geogrid directly affects the reinforcement performance. This article explains the key inspection points before accepting a delivery.
Tensile Strength Testing
The tensile strength of the geogrid ribs is the core performance indicator. Samples are tested in a tensile testing machine to measure the breaking load and elongation. The test results should meet the values stated in the product specification.
Rib and Joint Check
Inspect the rib surface for cracks, bubbles or uneven thickness. The joints between the longitudinal and transverse ribs should be firm and free from separation. For steel-plastic geogrids, check that the steel wires are fully covered by the plastic coating.

Dimension and Roll Check
Measure the grid opening size, roll width and roll length against the specification. The opening size tolerance affects the interlock with the soil aggregate. Check the roll for kinks, deformation or damage during transport.
Documentation
Verify the test certificate, material grade and batch number. Keep one sample from each batch for reference. A complete record of the inspection makes acceptance clear and provides traceability for the project.
