We recently supplied 80,000 square meters of plastic geogrid (biaxial geogrid) to a highway road base reinforcement project in Yunnan. The geogrid was laid between the subgrade and the gravel base layer to improve the bearing capacity and reduce road settlement.
Because the project section passes through soft soil foundation, the settlement control requirement was high. Our biaxial geogrid has high tensile strength in both directions and good interlocking performance with the crushed stone, which effectively distributes the load.
During construction, the geogrid was laid flatly on the leveled subgrade, stretched tightly and fixed with U-shaped nails every 1-2 meters. The overlap width between adjacent sheets was no less than 20 cm. Then the gravel was spread and compacted on top.
After the road base was completed, the pavement deflection test showed that the deformation was far lower than the design value. The contractor confirmed that the geogrid effectively improved the stability of the road base and planned to continue cooperation in the next section.
