Grass Grid on Green Roofs
Grass grid provides a lightweight, permeable surface for rooftop gardens. It holds the growing medium in place while allowing drainage through the cells.
Load Considerations
Before installing, confirm the roof structure can support the saturated weight of grid plus growing medium and vegetation. Extensive green roofs use a shallow growing medium (50-100mm). Intensive roofs need structural engineering review.
Drainage Layer Below
Place a drainage board or geocomposite beneath the grid to channel excess water to roof drains. The grid itself does not replace the roof waterproofing membrane. A root-resistant waterproof layer is essential below everything.
