Grass Grid on Sloped Driveways: Grade and Stability Considerations

Maximum Slope

Grass grid pavers can be installed on slopes up to about 15-20%. Beyond that, the gravel sub-base may shift under braking and acceleration, and the grid cells may slide downhill.

Edge Retention

On sloped installations, edge restraints are essential. Use concrete curbing or plastic edge boards anchored with stakes to prevent the grid from migrating. The grid itself locks cells together, but the perimeter needs a firm boundary.

Drainage

The permeable grid reduces runoff, but on a steep driveway the gravel base must be compacted to prevent erosion. A geotextile under the gravel prevents soil washout from below.
