Site Preparation
Before laying the grass grid, prepare a stable sub-base:
- Excavate to the required depth (typically 150-200mm including base material)
- Compact the sub-grade to at least 90% Proctor density
- Install geotextile separation fabric if the sub-grade is soft or expansive soil
- Spread and compact crushed stone base in 100mm lifts
- Finish with a 30-50mm layer of fine sand or crushed gravel, leveled and compacted
Grid Laying
Lay the green plastic grass grid starting from one corner of the area:
- Interlock the grids by pressing the edges together; the unique hexagonal design provides strong connection
- Cut grids to fit around edges and obstacles using a utility knife
- Ensure the surface is level; the grids should sit flat on the prepared base
- For driveway applications, use a 50mm or 70mm height grid suitable for vehicle loads
Backfilling and Seeding
After the grids are installed:
- Fill the cells with topsoil or a soil-sand mix, leaving 10-15mm below the grid edge
- Sow grass seed suitable for the local climate
- Water thoroughly and keep moist until grass establishes
- For areas not intended for grass, fill with crushed gravel for a permeable gravel surface
