Your home is ideal for solid wall insulation if you meet the following conditions: the house you live in was built in the early 20th century. This may mean you have solid walls without cavities. To check if you have brick, measure the thickness of the brick in the wall through a door or window. If they are less than 260mm, you may have solid walls. Another way to know if you have solid walls is to observe the pattern of the bricks. If you always see whole bricks, then half bricks, then you have solid walls. All bricks means cavity walls.
You have cavity walls, but because you live in a windy, rain-exposed area, you cannot insulate them.

If you meet any of the above criteria, you have solid walls that must be insulated. In most cases, you can choose to do this internally or externally. Internal wall insulation is cheaper, but when you insulate internally, you may lose coveted floor space.
You can isolate internal walls in any of the following ways:
1. Dry lining:
Wall insulation material is installed between battens fixed to the wall. They are then covered with plasterboard. This method is ideal if your internal walls have many fixtures installed.
2. Adding insulation using stud walls
This technique requires building a new stud wall made of wood or metal. The stud wall is fixed to the supporting wall. The space between them is filled with mineral wool insulation batts and covered with plasterboard. Stud wall insulation is a commonly used internal wall insulation method and is also cheap. However, this also means losing floor space, having to remove and reposition radiators and their pipes.
3. Thermal wallpaper
Thermal lining is essentially a thin material made of textile fibers and wood fibers that can be applied in roll form, similar to thick wallpaper. They help retain heat indoors. It is applied to the wall using a glue-like adhesive. This is not an effective solution, and the finish may not be acceptable to some people.
Can internal wall insulation cause moisture problems?
Solid walls usually allow the walls to breathe. Continuing this "breathable" approach, if you insulate the walls with foil-faced rock wool board, you may invite trouble. With a foil face, it will not allow vapor to pass through easily. This in turn can lead to moisture accumulation behind the board, leading to mold and other problems. By using breathable insulation materials like mineral wool insulation batts, water passes through easily, thereby preventing dampness and mold. This way you can prevent moisture accumulation.
