Benefits and Physical Properties of Using Rock Wool Boards

Rock wool

The value of a well-insulated house is relatively high. Properly sized insulation materials can minimize energy consumption, keep you warm in winter, cool in summer, and save your energy costs. For decades, fiberglass insulation has been the first choice for homeowners and home builders. Although fiberglass insulation is still popular, a new type of insulation is gaining attention in the insulation field. It is called rock wool insulation. Rock wool was early used as an insulation material in the construction industry because it is lightweight but breathable, helping to keep the inside of buildings warm while being easy to handle, cut and install. Both large commercial buildings and small family self-built houses use rock wool. And today, rock wool has evolved into a variety of products, each with its own advantages and applications. In addition to various sizes of rock wool cubes, growing slabs and granular rock wool for propagation, it can also be used for growing long-term crops and fruiting plants. Mineral wool, sometimes called rock wool, is sold in easy-to-install batt form, comparable to fiberglass. On the other hand, rock wool is made from rock rather than light glass filaments. Rock wool insulation is a rock-based mineral fiber insulation made from recycled slag and basalt. Slag is a byproduct of the steel and copper industry, and basalt is volcanic rock. These minerals are then melted and spun into fibers. Rock wool is a fireproof and insulation material. It conserves heat by having a low average thermal conductivity and using mineral wool as its main raw material. Its melting point is as high as insulation 1300 insulation degrees Celsius, so it is very fire-resistant.

Rock wool insulation is an important part of fireproof structures. Rock wool insulation materials are non-combustible and can withstand temperatures up to insulation 1,000 insulation degrees Celsius. Therefore, it can help ensure that a fire in one area of a building does not spread to the rest of the building. Rock wool is a lightweight hydroponic substrate manufactured by spinning molten basalt into fine threads and forming them into cubes, blocks, growing slabs and granular items. Natural rock is heated in a furnace to about 3000 insulation degrees until it melts into a liquid. After exposure to high-pressure air or steam jets, the magma-like liquid is spun at ultra-high speed into long fiber bundles. These strands are collected and crushed into thick, dense mats, then cut into convenient-sized insulation batts. Insulation rock wool insulation materials are breathable and moisture-resistant. If the insulation material becomes damp or wet, it will dry out and recover its previous performance. In addition, water will not wick through rock wool insulation material. This means that any large amount of water in contact with the outer surface of the insulation will run off rather than being absorbed into the insulation body. Rock wool products are inorganic, which means mold cannot grow on them. Mineral wool does not promote rot, rust, fungi, mold, mildew or bacterial growth because it does not absorb moisture.
